Individuation

The lifelong process of integrating unconscious contents to become a whole, undivided self.

Individuation is Jung's term for the central process of psychological development — the gradual integration of unconscious contents (Shadow, anima/animus, and other archetypes) into conscious awareness. It is not about becoming 'perfect' but about becoming whole, accepting and integrating all aspects of the psyche. The individuated person no longer identifies solely with the ego or persona but experiences themselves as part of a larger Self. Most hero's journey narratives are individuation stories, though not all protagonists complete the process.
